Many times I’ll hear someone say to me, “Laurie, you’re a singer, you write songs, you’re creative, I can’t do that kind of stuff” followed by the notorious “I’m just not creative” as if they’re defeated before they even get started.

Think about some situations you’ve been in where you’ve felt powerless, frustrated, pushed in a corner, isolated, and confused about what you should do next. Do you think if you could write a song it would help you get out of that trap? Do you think painting a picture or writing poetry would be able to help you solve that problem either? When experiencing the problems just mentioned these are the times it’s most important to be creative. Consider these 5 ways to be creative when you’re feeling you have no innovative juice inside of you and tap into creativity you may have overlooked.

1.	Reflect: We live in a reactive often unconscious society. By simply engaging in reflection and recognizing the moments in your life and what you’ve learned you’re tapping into that part of yourself that many never seek to know. Consider what parts of yourself, what answers you could discover if you simply made the time to reflect on your feelings, your thoughts, you gave yourself the space of silence to hear your own intuition. Get a journal and make time everyday to reflect and write.

2.	Be vulnerable: The next time you feel as if you don’t know the answer or you’re confused about something simply say so boldly. Be that person who is willing to get the conversation rolling. Allow yourself to tell others what you’re experiencing instead of responding the way you think you should or by staying silent. Express yourself in an authentic and respectful way and you’ll soon be the go to person for creative solutions because you’re willing to be real, which not everyone is willing to do.

3.	Be Flexible: When things are supposed to go one way and they don’t, tell yourself you’ve got nothing to lose even if you think you might. Consider at least two alternatives on how you might proceed and move forward. Model to others that you’re open-minded and be willing to receive feedback and adjust when necessary. Creative people welcome ideas and recognize there are ideas and opportunities everywhere. Be willing to see them.

4.	Be Proactive: Recognize that there are times when we’re not able to plan, but in many cases we can prepare and be ready for what’s to come. Consider a potentially difficult client or staff meeting that always results with the same negative outcome. How could you proactively change how things go the next time. Possibly this would be to proactively at the beginning of the session state “This is what has happened the last 3 times we had this discussion, let’s make sure we don’t do it again. If it starts to happen I’m going to _________________” and establish your boundaries accordingly. Politely request their feedback as well and agree on how you each are going to respond when x occurs. Proactively address your boss privately when no conflict is present and say “every time I get called to your office I experience anxiety. It would really be helpful if you could let me know ahead of time what we’ll be discussing so I can prepare”. There are always exceptions and circumstances where this may not be effective, but just remember being proactive is about you being in the driver’s seat and in charge of how people treat you. If you’re not feeling respected or a situation is too great to deal with you always have a choice.

5.	Support Creative/ Innovative people: Often times the few people who are willing to speak up or stick their neck out on the line are on their own. Those who don’t speak up may be thinking “thank goodness so and so spoke up and said exactly what I was thinking”. Just because it was said doesn’t mean it is going to have the same impact as it would if other people supported it as well. Connect with people who think like you, who you admire, who you respect, and practice supporting them fully. Surround yourself with the people who bring your energy up, who challenge status quo, who can help you tap into your own creative energies.

These are some examples of what creative people do. It doesn’t take any artistic skill to be able to perform these successfully, but it does take a commitment. When you’re drained or exhausted or thinking about what you’re lacking you’re not focused on your gifts and talents and getting them out into the world. Consider what a disservice this is and make the change to embrace your creativity today.

So often people have that gnawing feeling they want more, but they don’t know what to do or where to start in order to get it. A couple years back, I went to an Oprah Live Event and had the opportunity to hear one of the featured speakers Martha Beck. She was normalizing with the audience that desire to have an impact on the world, or to have a better more fulfilling life, but not having a clue how to do it. I’ve used this strategy I’m about ready to mention with some that I’ve worked with to help shift the focus when finding your “life purpose” seems like an overwhelming daunting task. We’re all in the same boat there, where I personally don’t believe any of us should be seeking our “life purpose” as that is constantly evolving and changing and quite frankly may not be for us to know. However, each one of us can live on purpose and do something about things that matter to us.

As Martha continued her talk, she suggested to the audience to google various ideas and concepts together as a way to brainstorm. For example, she said google something you like to do or that you’re good at with something you want to change in the world and see what comes up. Now, in all honesty, I did this exercise and it didn’t yield me a ton of results, however, it may be different for you with your various passions talents and abilities, and how long you’re willing to google I suppose. But what it did do for me was inspire me to think more about how to incorporate my talents with what I’m passionate about and as a way to participate in the change I want to see in the world. Simply stated, it helped me take the focus off of me and onto what I care about. Big paradigm shift for me when struggling with not feeling worthy, good enough, or smart enough to create a business. Whoever might be struggling with those same thoughts and feelings would probably be more able to embrace their desire to participate in social change through business. It takes the scariness of business down a notch or two for most people.

This could go in many different directions and as you can imagine the options are limitless. So rather than getting stumped and stopping immediately when you’re considering what you’re good at and how in the world you could make money doing it, consider first, what you care about in the world and how can you use what God gave you to contribute to making that situation or issue better. Now selecting a cause or project of social change may be difficult as we know there are so many non profits out there vying for our money and time so which one do we choose? Well, the answer isn’t so simple for everyone and it may be where you want to spend a significant portion of your time doing some research.

Whether you’ve already got an established business or you are new in business you can learn from this paragraph, because as stated above we want our passion, mission vision to match up as much as possible, so if you’re a writer you may emphasize that you’re passionate about literacy. Or if you’re a fitness trainer you may be passionate about helping to make an impact on the childhood obesity epidemic. Not that a personal trainer can’t care about wildlife, but doesn’t it make her business platform so much stronger and compel you to want to hire her as a personal trainer because she is also helping to combat child obesity. Already you feel like you too are part of something bigger and more important than just buying that product or service for yourself. Start thinking big because you too can contribute to social change no matter where you’re at on your journey.

Always busy, but never productive?

Scattered and disorganized?

Have big ideas about what you want to do, but don’t know where to start?

Ready to stop bad habits and create new ones?

Want to make a difference with your life?

Trying to decide which program is for you?

Ready to live everyday knowing that you’re doing something worthwhile?

Determined to start creating a legacy you’re proud of?

If these questions resonate with you, the Divas with Drive journey has been specifically formulated to lead you to success FROM THE INSIDE OUT! Regardless of what you might have been told, clarity is our ONLY way to success. As many experts have quoted, our success is based on 80% of our psychology and 20% of our actions and behavior. Before I start throwing more “how to’s” at you, phase 1 of the DIVA kickstart plan is focused on ensuring you are prepared to take MASSIVE purposeful action and to operate at a new normal. If you’re not, you’ll likely continue to drown in negative self talk, take fear based action, and suffer from self defeating behaviors that prevent you from reaching your goals while maintaining your current status quo.

We’ve all been convinced there’s a quick fix to whatever pain we want to eliminate or whatever pleasure we seek, but we all know better than that, yet we fall for it over and over again. This program will support you to carefully create your customized next steps and the process can be repeated over and over again no matter where you’re at in your journey. No more reactive impulse buying out of desperation, no more buying something you’re not ready for, no more not having results. You’re NOW ready for D.I.V.A. living!! Take it from someone who’s been there done that!! About Me

My philosophy: “How To’s” are NOT ENOUGH and NEVER EVER will be!!

If they were, we’d all be Millionaires, we’d all have exactly the life we dream of, and we’d all want for nothing because there’s a book, a program, a seminar out there on “How to” for every one of the topics we are all so interested in mastering: i.e. Making money/ Starting a business/ Living with passion/ Finding love/ Being Happy/losing weight…. You name it!! So why aren’t we all “living the dream” so to speak?? It’s simple. We’re human and we’re complicated beings. We have multifaceted thoughts/ feelings/ behaviors and habits and it takes more than a few checklists and templates to create meaningful and lasting change.

Join us and:
